Beerwah is a well-established, rail corridor township located within the southern division of the Sunshine Coast local authority, approximately 75 kilometres due north of Brisbane via the Bruce Highway. Gowinta Farms was established in 1948. Almost 70 years later it has evolved into one of the Sunshine Coast's premier farming enterprises comprising 11 properties totalling approximately 85 hectares with water entitlements supported by extensive automated irrigation infrastructure and systems.
Over recent years, Gowinta Farms has produced between 150,000 and 250,000 trays of first grade strawberry fruit for major supermarket chains throughout Australia and New Zealand, and prior to that between 740 and 1,300 tonnes of pineapples for a pineapple cannery. Additionally, more recent ventures such as raspberry and lychee production has added further diversity to Gowinta Farms production capabilities.
Farming activities currently being conducted at Gowinta Farms include the preparation of ground for strawberry planting, harvesting of raspberries, maintaining pineapples and preparing for the lychee harvest.
The structural improvements are significant and include extensive greenhouse poly tunnels for hydroponic production, large fruit packing sheds with refrigeration rooms and loading/unloading areas, expansive hardstand areas, administration and staff facilities, various homes and cottages and several machinery sheds and workshops. The structural improvements are modern and in excellent condition with substantial excess capacity available to allow for future expansion.
Employing up to 300 people seasonally, Gowinta Farms has the benefit of being able to offer seasonal staff on-site accommodation at its very own 56 site caravan park and cafe. The caravan park is also open to the public and offers an alternative income stream.
